Calender Roll

Smooth calender Roll is used in calenders, mainly chilled by cast iron with same structure of press roll and extremely high hardness and wear resistance. With the updating technology, it becomes possibility for thermal spraying in the application of calender. The calender roll with supersonic flame sprayed tungstan carbid coating shows superior wear resistance to the conventional chilled cast iron roll, having 8Gpa rolling contact fatigue strength, which fully withstand the rolling force of calender roll. Because the coating is dense without pores, its corrosion resistance is better than the plating roll surface, also can be polished to the mirror-face looking. This tungsten carbide coating on the steel rolls can avoid the casting defects of chilled cast iron and repair the worn-out cast iron rolls to improve their surface hardness. The sprayed ceramic coating has fine pores, like the sponge structure, which has the ability to absorb water, enhance the wettability of the coating, and improve its catching ability. When the coating thickness is more than 0.15 mm, the capillary pores of the through-substrate can be eliminated, so that the coating does not peel off in a short time. Typically a 0.25 mm thick coating is sufficient to provide a roll lifetime more than 3 years.
